Summer Learning Program
Cambria County Library’s 2017 Summer Learning Program will run Tuesday, June 13th through Thursday, July 25th. The theme for this year’s program is Build a Better World.
Children’s Summer Learning programs:
Children’s programs are for children ages 0-12 years old and will feature stories about building and community improvement along with games and activities that promote literacy and learning. Programs are offered at no charge to children of all ages in the Cambria County area. Registration will be taken online at slp.cclsys.org, by phone at (814) 536-5131 ext. 205, or by stopping by the Children’s Department desk on the 2nd floor of the library.
- Children’s Summer Learning Kick-Off Party
Tuesday, June 13th
For children ages 0-12 years old
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Sign-ups start for the Summer Learning Program. Children who sign up in-person on this day will receive a Summer Learning packet with a print reading log to record their time spent reading. Clifford the Big Red Dog will be at the library to take pictures with children and families. The Johnstown city fire truck and fire fighters will be visiting starting at 10:00. A special storytime with guest County Commissioner Thomas Chernisky will also be held at 11:00.
- Bookbinding Workshop for Kids ages 8-12 years old
Friday, June 16th
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Learn about the craft of building a book with master bookbinder Ms. Laryssa and make your own take-home notebook. (Pre-registration required.)

12:00 – 2:00 p.m. (drop in anytime!)
Use your imagination and STEM skills using different materials and building components to create a new structure each week.
- Family Movie Afternoons
Wednesdays, June 21st and 28th, July 5th, 12th, and 19th starting at 1:00 p.m.
Enjoy a family-friendly movie in our Storytime Theater following the Summer Lunch Program.

Come back to the library to get your certificate and celebrate with games, balloons, face painting, and popcorn!
- Babies (0-24 months):
A lapsit program featuring stories, music, and bounce rhymes for babies- the perfect time to start sharing books together.

- Toddlers (24-36 months):
A great way to make new friends, this active storytime features books, songs, fingerplays, and music/movement activities.

- Preschool (3, 4, and 5 years): *2 class options*
Storytime fun for children ages 3, 4, and 5 years old. Listen to stories, join in music/movement activities, create crafts, and participate in other activities aimed at enhancing social and literacy skills at a young age.

- Kindergarten – 2nd grade (completed): *2 class options*
Designed for children who have completed Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. Children will learn about structural and architectural forms through stories, science, and hands-on activities along with ways to have a positive impact on our community. Sing songs, make crafts, and get moving with fun games and projects.

- 3rd – 6th grade (completed):
Children who have completed 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade are invited to learn more about the science and artistic design of engineering through fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and a variety of collaborative activities.
