On October 2, 2009, with a ground breaking ceremony for the new library, the Patton Library Board of Directors and librarian kicked off a project that only a few years ago was just a dream. The dream began when the library received word that we were to be the recipient of a $200,000 + bequest from a former Pattonite, Irene Micklick Sauter. Our first response to the news was that we would build a new library with the money. However we soon learned that more money would be needed to complete the project that would meet the needs of Patton and the surrounding townships. To add to the bequest we applied for and received a Pennsylvania Keystone Grant for libraries. (It wasn’t as easy as it sounds. We worked for two years on that grant)! We also applied for and received a USDA Rural Development grant.

At the same time we began a local campaign to raise additional funds needed for the project. The response by the Patton community and surrounding townships to our fund drive was outstanding! With the bequest, the grants, the pledges , and donations we are very close to the projected cost of the project: $800,000!

On June 12, 2010, the dedication and the ribbon cutting ceremony was met with eager anticipation.  More than 500 people attended the festivities. Let's take a tour...
