POSITION: Teen Reading Lounge Co-Facilitator 

REPORTS TO: Teen Librarian and Reference Supervisor 

POSITION SUMMARY: The TRL co-facilitator is an independent contractor for the award-winning Youth Led Humanities / Teen Reading Lounge program. Teen Reading Lounge is a non-traditional book group where youth hang out with other teens, talk about the books they’re reading, and participate in activities teens help choose. Sessions will run every other week from December through June and will last approximately one and a half hours.  

Duties: 

  • Support teen leadership. 
  • Collaborate with Teen Librarian to plan and facilitate creative activities that align with the reading materials and the missions of YLH and CCL. 
  • Facilitate discussions. 
  • Evaluate and adapt program as necessary. 
  • Collect and report data. 
  • Market program through various methods, including in-person outreach. 
  • Participate in Community of Practice calls and annual gathering. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS: 

  • Experience working with youth, especially teens. 
  • Experience providing instruction in small-group settings.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong computer literacy skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to travel. 
  • Criminal background check, child abuse clearance, and FBI fingerprint check. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Able to lift or move 30 lbs. 
  • Occasional crouching (bending of the knees) 
  • Stooping (bending at the waist) and reaching 

Manual /physical dexterity requirements 

  • Able to manipulate a keyboard and mouse 
  • Able to set up laptops, projector, and screen. 
  • Able to manipulate data cables, cords, or connections 

COMPENSATION 

The TRL Co-facilitator will be contracted for 7-9 hours a month with an hourly wage between $14-$18 for the grant period. Travel expenses are eligible for reimbursement.

This project is made possible by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries with additional support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, individual donors and other funders.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $14.00 – $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2-3 per week
