Have you visited our recently reopened third floor? If you haven’t, you’re in for a treat when you see it! Staff worked hard–in conjunction with our contractors–to remove the old carpet and replace it with gorgeous LVT flooring. We have a welcoming new nook where you can hang out and play games with friends and family, build a puzzle, or attend programs like our SummerQuest Monday Morning Movement with Rachel Allen. You’ll also see a new photo gallery, currently featuring photos by Ryan, one of our Reference librarians.

We’re excited about these initial changes and have already seen so much positive response to them!

You may notice that the third floor seems more spacious, or you may be looking for certain collections, or wondering where others have moved. Here’s a short rundown of our current changes, and what you can be looking for in the future as renovations continue:

It seems much brighter now. Is it just the floor?

In addition to our new flooring, the ceiling lightbulbs were replaced with LED lighting. They make the floor brighter, as well as make it easier to search for your book titles back in the stacks!

Where did the Reference books go?

The renovations are happening in stages and we had to temporarily pack up some items while the work is being completed, including the Reference collection. If you’re looking for a particular title, please let desk staff know and we’ll try and locate it for you. You can also ask any Reference librarian for help with a question and we’ll do our best to find you the information.

If you’re looking for Large Print, Urban Fiction, or the Spanish collection, they are now located together on the fiction side. Look for signage back there to help locate them, or ask a staff person for help.

The floor seems a lot emptier now, did you take out some tables?

Actually, we added more tables and chairs for patron comfort and convenience. What you might be noticing is that we took out some of the study carrels that weren’t being used, as well as some other random items. We hope you like the new spaciousness.

What’s coming next?

We’re excited that our next phases for the third floor include some new furniture, upgraded displays for your browsing enjoyment, and extensive renovations to the Pennsylvania Room to make it more usable. The computer training lab will be moving upstairs–part of the renovations that are coming to the first floor. Look for those renovations to begin sometime after SummerQuest.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work on improvements for your library!
