FUNCTION: 

This is a full-time position with benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, and paid holidays. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of the library building and grounds, including janitorial duties. This role has important leadership functions and includes attending Leadership Team meetings, supervising maintenance staff, and serving as Person in Charge (PIC) in certain situations. The position also involves opening and closing the library and requires availability for some Saturdays and evenings. Flexibility for emergencies or other special circumstances is also required. 

SUPERVISION / STAFF SUPERVISED: 

  • 1 full-time maintenance staff member 
  • 1 part-time maintenance staff member 
  • Oversight includes scheduling, training, and day-to-day guidance 

DUTIES: 

  • Monitor and maintain HVAC systems; contact service providers as needed 
  • Set up and tear down tables/chairs for community meeting rooms and events 
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and janitorial supplies 
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance repairs 
  • Move and arrange furniture as needed, including library shelving 
  • Conduct interior painting, drywall repair, and upkeep of mechanical equipment 
  • Clean and maintain restrooms and general library areas 
  • Empty outdoor book drops and delivers materials to the front desk 
  • Monitor and maintain parking lot and sidewalks, including snow removal and salting 
  • Maintain grounds, including patio and garden 
  • Open and close the library, ensuring building security and readiness for operations 
  • Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) when designated, overseeing building operations and staff. Along with Security as a PIC, enforce library rules and address disruptive behavior, contacting police if necessary 
  • Work with outside vendors for maintenance, repairs, and service contracts 
  • Assemble and disassemble shelving as required 
  • Train, supervise, and support maintenance staff, employment program workers, or volunteers 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Mechanical aptitude 
  • Ability to communicate well 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Valid driver’s license 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Considerable walking in the work area 
  • Able to sit and stand for long periods of time 
  • Able to lift or move 80 lbs. 
  • Crouching (bending of the knees) 
  • Stooping (bending at the waist)
