Maintenance Assistant Position

POSITION: Maintenance Assistant – Food Insecurity Support 

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor 

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports food insecurity program by helping to ensure clean and sanitary conditions throughout the building. Performs general routine cleaning and maintenance assistance of the library building’s three floors and outside grounds. 

DUTIES: 

• Thoroughly wipe down tables and chairs in Story Theater.
• Wipe and sanitize food serving tables and small sink in Story Theater.
• Change water in small sink as needed.
• Mark sure all garbage cans are emptied before and after food programs.
• Sweep and mop stairwells, floors, and hallways, with a focus on Story Theater and Playroom.
• Thorough cleaning and upkeep of building restrooms.
• Steam clean carpet periodically.
• Dust vents and other areas periodically.
• Clean breakroom sink and refrigerator, wipe tables and vacuum.
• Watering and upkeep of outdoor gardens and plants.
• Set up and tear down tables/chairs in children’s department as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to communicate well

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

• Considerable walking in the work area
• Able to sit and stand for long periods of time
• Able to lift or move 80 lbs
• Crouching (bending of the knees)
• Stooping (bending at the waist)
