Hastings Public Library’s History
Mrs. Gertrude M. Houck, a member of the Cambria County National Library Week committee, founded The Hastings Public Library in 1958. Over the years residents of Hastings, Elder Township and Susquehanna Township have contributed both money and hard work, resulting in a flourishing center of learning of which Hastings can be exceedingly proud. A grant enabled the library to install disabled ramps in 1995.
The library received four new public access computers in 2002, thanks to a generous grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and access to the Internet is even faster since the installation of higher speed lines.
Librarians through the years have included Miss Margaret Stotsky (our first librarian), Mrs. Joanne Holtz, Mrs. Louise Kibler, Mrs. Winifred Abrams, Mrs. Mary Weakland, Mrs. C.H. Sykes, Miss Pegi Houck, Mrs. Marilyn Frank, Mrs. Nan (Beach) McElheny, Mrs. Patricia Sibert-Kline, Miss Dana Hoover, Ms. Patricia Mathews, Ms. Verna Fulton, Ms. Megan Deibler and Miss Frances Rhoa, Cara Carpinello, Bernadette Dillon, Janet Barnosky, Angie Fels, and Audrey Bonneau, Dee Hindmarsh Werner, John Koblosky
