Children’s Programming (0-11 years-old)

The following list is children’s programming by day and age. Please call or stop in the library to sign up for programs!

Monday: Adagio Power Up! Program- for ages 6-11, 11-12 p.m.

Program Dates: Mondays June 26, July 10, July 17 and July 31

Join us for this health and nutrition program provided by Adagio Health. We will explore healthy eating with recipe demos/tastings, engage in physical activities, and explore at-home gardening. Other activities include sidewalk coloring projects and recurring garden lessons from Power Up. *Children under 9-years-old must be accompanied by an adult guardian.


Tuesdays: Children’s Storytime- for ages 0-5, 1-2 p.m.

Starts June 27 and ends August 1

Starting June 27, on Tuesdays from 1-2 p.m., Children’s Librarian, Karen Hall, will lead a community-themed Storytime program for ages 0-5 years-old, with book readings, songs, dance and crafts. The library welcomes families to this program intended to encourage socialization and foster early literacy skills. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

*Due to space limitations, we ask that parents/guardians call 814-948-8222 to sign their children up for storytime.


Wednesdays: Arts and Mindsfor ages 6-11, 1-2 p.m.

Starts June 28 and ends August 2

Join library volunteer Karen Ligda for this meditation and crafting program. Starting June 28, students will explore and practice mindfulness, or the idea of being present and aware of one’s thoughts and feelings to promote good mental health. Participants will take part in a quick mindfulness activity and then make a DIY craft based on each week’s theme. Children under 9-years-old must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

Tweens/Teens

Stay cool and enjoy cool tween/teen-aged programming at the library!

Thursdays: Party Together! a Table-Top RPG adventure, 1-3 p.m.

Starts June 29 and Ends August 3

Join Library Director and Game Master, Justin Brown, for this interactive role-playing game! Students will put on the hats of their favorite monster-slaying heroes and work together to tell a story of how they investigate, track, and defeat the big-bad!  Utilizing the Monster of the Week game system, this program encourages students to actively engage in literacy, storytelling, risk assessment, cooperation and socialization.

Summer Food Programs

The library is distributing meals throughout the week for students ages 18 and under. Please be aware of days/times of distribution.

Summer Youth Café, Mon., Wed., Thurs., 1-3 p.m.

Starting: Northern Cambria Public Library will be hosting the Summer Youth Cafe, provided by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Cambria County Child Development Corporation.

Students 18 yrs-old and under can grab a meal from 1-3 p.m., Tues., Weds. and Thurs. for a free meal. No sign ups required!

The Summer Youth Café starts Tuesday, June 13 and ends Thursday, August 3.

Summer Meal Pack

Starts Saturday, June 24 – Ends August 12

The library will be distributing meal bags for ages 18 and under from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the summer.

The meals are provided by The Cambria County Backpack Project, which is a Partnership Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.

The food that we provide is packed to be two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners. Sign-ups are NOT required.


Summer Reading Challenge!

Students are encouraged to keep up with their summer reading by logging books or minutes to complete the challenge and win a prize!


Reading-Challenge Categories:

  • PRE-READER/EARLY READER – Join in on the summer fun with your child by engaging in literacy activities. Log total minutes spent on activities like reading, talking, singing, exploring and writing with your child! (Log 400 mins. total to complete the challenge.)
  • INDEPENDENT READER– Get that summer reading in and log the minutes you spend reading your favorite books!
  • (Log 720 mins. total to complete)
  • TWEENS/TEENS – Take the challenge and show your love of reading by logging all the books you finish during the summer. (Log 12 books to complete )

Adult Digital Literacy Workshops

The library is hosting another round of digital literacy workshops provided by CareerLink of Cambria County

SkillUp Workshops, Mondays 2-4 p.m.
Dates: *Wednesday June 21
Mondays July 3, July 17, July 31

This program is for adults who want to learn how to use modern technologies, brush up on their computer skills, or learn specific software skills using Pa. CareerLink’s self-directed, web-based e-learning service.

Participants will get hands-on instructions showing how to sign up for the program, how to search and access learning tracks, and they will be taught the digital basics course.

*There are only 10 spots available, so call 814-948-8222 or stop in the library to sign up today.

Using a computer can help you learn new things like how to learn a new hobby such as wood working, or fix a faucet, or find a yoga class. The skill up digital literacy track can teach you the basics and terminology of technology.

You can have items delivered to your doorstep:  You no longer must worry about mobility issue. If you have a computer, tablet, or phone and an internet connection buying your groceries and doing your shopping is a click away. 

Application (APPS) can improve your life: There are applications that can count the calories you burn while walking, remind you to take your medications or walk your dog, and track your diet. Most of these apps are free.  

Digital literacy skills have become necessary for navigating the ever-digitalizing world. Some of the skills that can be learned with the SkillUp digital Literacy track are: 

General computer skills: These skills are the first step to being able to apply digital media for everyday use. 

Researching: Being able to find relevant information in a vast amount of media is a crucial skill in operating different digital platforms. 

Adapting to technological innovations: New technological advancements are presented daily, which is why being able to adapt to changes is an integral part of working with digital platforms. 

Collaborating well with others on different digital platforms: Since a large portion of work and education is being performed digitally, it’s important to be able to navigate various digital media that help collaborate with others. 

A level of understanding of terms and familiarity with common digital media: This skill allows users to utilize the digital feature to their full potential.  

Small business development : you can learn how to develop a Facebook business page, and use a variety of social media platforms to promote your small business. 

Once you are computer savvy and confident with your skills you can search for jobs, apply for jobs, and maybe work from the comfort of your home.
