Our Children’s Department

Welcome to the Cambria County Library Children’s Department. We serve children from birth through age 12 with an appealing collection of books, DVDs, computers, learning games and materials. The Children’s Department strives to serve our community with a variety of unique and engaging programs based on Pennsylvania’s learning standards for young and school-aged children. Join us on the second floor of the library–we are a one-stop community hub for learning and fun!

Storytime

We offer classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers that focus on developing early literacy and school readiness skills. Preschool classes include a craft.

Class size is limited and classes fill up quickly!

PlayRoom

It is through play that children learn how to engage and interact with the world around them. Come visit our newly renovated playroom for children five years old and under. Updates to our playroom were made possible by a Saver Life grant from the City of Johnstown.

Mondays: 9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Tuesdays: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Thursdays: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Fridays: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

SafeSitter Classes

Cambria County Library offers three Safe Sitter® Classes: Safe Sitter Essentials (no CPR component), Safe Sitter Essentials with CPR, and Safe at Home. Visit our Safe Sitter® page to learn more.

Concept Kits

The Cambria County Library is now offering concept kits! These kits focus around a topic of your choice. Library staff will gather materials (fiction and nonfiction books, DVDs, CDs) related to the theme. Kits are perfect for homeschoolers, preschools and elementary teachers but anyone can utilize the service. Going on vacation? We can do a kit for you based on your trip. Grandkids coming for a visit? We can build a pack of books perfect for their ages and interests. Please allow two weeks’ notice to prepare your kit. Submit a Concept Kit Request Form to get started.



Britannica School PreK - 5th

Britannica School PreK – 5th is a comprehensive source of informational text for younger learners pre-K to grade 5. It includes encyclopedia articles, images, videos, and magazine articles.

Age-appropriate books, movies and research docs, including BookFlix and TrueFlix.
