Borrowing & Fees

Borrowing Materials at Highland Community Library

Borrowing materials is easy at Highland Community Library. All you need is a current library card! Library cards are free to any resident of Cambria County, and can be used at any of the 14 Cambria County System member libraries.

You may register for a card at the circulation desk. You, or a parent/guardian if you are under 18, must complete an application card and show identification that includes your current name and address.

If you are a resident of Pennsylvania and have a home library card with an ACCESS PA sticker, you may use that along with approved identification to obtain a CCL card. If you do not have such a card, or are not a resident of Pennsylvania, you may apply for a non-resident card for $25.00 a year. All members of a family may use a single non-resident card.

You can also apply for a digital library card, which will provide you with access to our digital resources, including e-books and audiobooks. Digital cards cannot be used to check out physical items at our library. Apply for a digital library card here.

You may return items inside the library during regular operating hours. For your convenience, an after-hours book drop is located on the side of the building, and it is open any time the library is closed.

Renewals and Holds

Log in to your account to see checkouts, due dates, fines, renewals, and reserves.

Renewals

You can renew most items at least once if no one else is on the waiting list. Call 814-266-5610 ext. 305 to renew items or log in to renew online. If your item is overdue, you may be unable to renew online, but you can contact us via phone or email to renew if you have renewals left on the item and less than $5.00 in fees on your account.

Items borrowed from another library in the Cambria County Library System or from other libraries in our resource sharing service through SPARK can be renewed in your account or over the phone.

To renew interlibrary loans, call 814-266-5610 ext. 302. Interlibrary loan items can be identified by the green slip taped to the front. Please contact the library one week before the due date listed on the green slip to renew, so that we have time to contact the lending library and request your renewal. Approval of interlibrary loan renewals is at the discretion of the lending library, and not all interlibrary loan renewals are approved. Find more information about interlibrary loans here. Holds

Place holds through our catalog, in person, or by phone. You can place up to ten holds in one library account at a time.

You will be contacted by library staff when your hold is ready to pick up. You can choose to be contacted via phone, email, or text message. Set your holds notification preference in your account, or by contacting the library.

Once your hold arrives and you are contacted by the library, you have one week to pick up your hold. After a week, we may put that book back into circulation or fulfill another patron’s hold. Please contact us if you need additional time to pick up your hold so that we can accommodate you.

Paying Replacement Costs & Collection Fees

You can pay replacement costs and collection fees at the library. We accept cash, checks, debit cards, and all major credit cards. Please note that lost items may incur a replacement charge.
